SOCIALIST CHALLENGE in this issue reports on the effect that the racist immigration laws are having on the lives of black people and Asians in Britain.

These are not isolated cases. Unfortunately they are only too typical of the hounding and persecution dished out by racist state officials backed up by racist laws.

Racism is humiliates. It damages the interests of working people, because by identifying blacks and Asians as the scapegoats, it turns one group of workers against another and obscures who our real enemy is. that we do not have enough jobs, enough houses and enough social services, because we have too many black people in Britain. This is a lie. We do not have enough of what we want and need, because capitalism does not find it profitable to produce the goods needed. laws we defend the basic democratic rights of people TO earn a aving without being degraded by the state and without living in a state of uncertainty and fear. In doing so we are fighting for working class unity and solidarity, and that serves the needs of every worker, be they black or white.
