imperialist orientation within CND the taken by Youth CND at conference las reported in SC 29 April) is a heartening development. It BrAVE ANS quite graphically the gap exists bet ween the leadership of majority of ias majority sup porters.
The vote that i os taken the Council London Region CND effectively reversed a decision taken at that body's AGM which voted to support activities organised during Reagan's visit. This decision was laken by d collectinore represention LIGION CND groups and supporters. Whilst they alc busy organising meetings Salvador and Reagan Reception Com mittee speakers to mobilise for all events taking place and during Reagan's visit, CND seem portunity to oppose the portunity to oppose world's number one warmonger.
Instead of denouncing Reagan's bellicose foreign policy in the Middle East and Latin Ame a73 and in the crisis US forces went on worldwide nuclear alert; instead of drawing attention to the clear links betdeployment generation of nuclear warfighting weapons and these policies CND denounces the RRC and its activities.
This is a continuation of the far-left bashing that it has indulged in since the resurgence of CND. The reason flows from the clear strategy that it has, in particular the CP, for advancing the campaign. Its desire for respectability, to win the support of responsible persons (parsons) leads inevitably the downplaying of the most position of its poli NATO position unilateralism, and the most consistent advocates of those policies, the far the hostility to the RRC and its clear anti-imperialist thrust.
Yet CND has made an excellent response to the Malvinas crisis. Its clear headed opposition to the sending of the task force and to the dangers escalation inherent in the conflict (the task force apparently carry midst howls jingoism. But the question warmongering That. cher in the South Atlantic. why not oppose the visit of her mentor. Ronald Reagan? Why the contradiction?
It is a question whose answer has everything to do with CND's, and the CP's sectarianism The contradiction will be over come on 7 June when the ranks of CND turn out er masse on the picket of the US embassy.
