Uncorrected machine reading. This text was read by machine (Apple Vision OCR) from a scan of a newspaper page, and the page was cut into articles by machine, at the headlines found by their type size. Nothing has been corrected: expect misread words, text from a neighbouring article, and titles that are the machine reading of the headline, some of them only fragments. Quote from the scan, not from this page.
How this article was cut and titled: headline found by type size in the OCR geometry (split_tabloid.py); 1-4 of 7; machine-segmented newspaper page; uncorrected Vision OCR.

THE DOWN'S syndrome baby. said have been murdered by consultant paediatrician, was at birth suffering brain and Jung damage which could have proved fatal.

Fresh evidence proving this was produced in court week at the trial of Dr Leonard Arthur who is accused of murdering baby John Pear201.

The Home Office pathologist, Professor Usher, who had carried out the post-mortem EXamination on the baby had stated previously that the administering drug dyhydrocodeine (DF118) was the greatest single factor causing death.

However, when slides prepared from the baby's tissues by Professor John Emery, a world pert on cot deaths, were presented to the court. Professor Usher agreed defence council Mr George Carmen that: the seeds of death, or potential death, were already sown before birth...

While admitting that part of the prosecution's case had been 'inaccurate and misleading. Professor Usher still maintained that death had been due to poisoning involving DF118.

The trial continues.
