Uncorrected machine reading. This text was read by machine (Apple Vision OCR) from a scan of a newspaper page, and the page was cut into articles by machine, at the headlines found by their type size. Nothing has been corrected: expect misread words, text from a neighbouring article, and titles that are the machine reading of the headline, some of them only fragments. Quote from the scan, not from this page.
How this article was cut and titled: headline found by type size in the OCR geometry (split_tabloid.py); 1-4 of 4; machine-segmented newspaper page; uncorrected Vision OCR.

MARCH FOR JOBS, B'HAM 19 SEP MAN?

MISSING. Lionel Murray, General Secretary of the TUC. While more than 3 million people are on the dole, Murray is striving for the record of the most invisible trade union leader of all time.

The TUC's inaction is now criminal proportions. Plaintive pleas to the government to change course are useless.

Worse, when workers do struggle to defend their jobs, as in the magnificent factory occupations by the Lee Jeans and Laurence Scott workers, the trade union leaders attempt to sabotage their struggles.

This year's TUC will discuss an elaborate plan to 'reconstruct' Britain. But that plan is useless and utopian, unless the TUC leaders are prepared to fight, here and now, against reaching the misery of unemployment.

That means leading a massive campaign of action to bring down the Tories and for socialist solutions like the 35 hour week with no loss of pay.

TUC's plan for the 'Reconstruction of Britain' - see centre pages.
