Bad Taste: the hunger strike

· Socialist Challenge No. 176, 10 December 1980 · p. 7 of the scan · 158 words

The scan: sc-n176-dec-10-1980.pdf (PDF, Marxists Internet Archive, opens at this page)

This text was corrected by hand against the scan: the strip at the head of page 7, which the machine reading did not see; image taken from the scan and its lettering transcribed (18 Oct 2026). One of Cormac's Bad Taste strips: the hunger strike. Note: no number printed; the strip had been absent for some weeks (it says so itself) during the 1980 H-Block hunger strike.

page 7 of the scan

Five-panel cartoon strip: the cartoonist explains the recent absence of a comic strip — there is the hunger strike, and it is hard to think about anything else; but a few Irish men and women possibly going to their deaths is hardly worth bothering the British working class about.
