Uncorrected machine reading. This text was read by machine (Apple Vision OCR) from a scan of a newspaper page, and the page was cut into articles by machine, at the headlines found by their type size. Nothing has been corrected: expect misread words, text from a neighbouring article, and titles that are the machine reading of the headline, some of them only fragments. Quote from the scan, not from this page.
How this article was cut and titled: headline found by type size in the OCR geometry (split_tabloid.py); 2-3 of 7; machine-segmented newspaper page; uncorrected Vision OCR.

in the country are still, unfortunately, convinced NATO is a protective shield.

But what they can understand are the particular decisions to have Cruise and Trident. So it's a matter of tactics.

After the demonstration we have to continue with the idea of the broad base.

We have to say to the public you have to be concerned; 10U pulling them towards vague mull lateral thing in the future, which is a formula for doing nothing, but for immediate action by us - governmentalour individual organisations.

At the organising meeting or the demonstration on :

that have. probability 40,000 people marching through London, and the one thing they all have in common is agreement with the slogans of the march.

they don't necessarily agree with unilateral disarmament, or an end to NATO. Some people, including yourself, even questioned whether CND should call people to join the campaign even though it called the march.

wouldn't agree with your analysis of it. I think that if people oppose Trident they actually in favour unilateral disarmament — but in ten years' time.

they're only a little way off.

You're probably right that if faced baldly with the question: Do you want to get out would say No. of NATO? lot But if asked: of USUDIC Do you. think the military blocs of the world should be dissolved? I think they'd say It's not been my experi ence that people have sup ported the demands march, and then the If the Labour Party had had before it not a resolution on getting out of NATO. but to work the mos the dissolution military blocs, I thịnk they'd have carried it.

All these groups * slightly different what we need. The question of whether more campaign can build up forces future is you have judge ground, There is a Peace Tax Campaign based highly limited issue which is drawing in a lot of people, have conscientious objection to paying war taxes. There's the Against the Arms which is taking up a single issue and it's been a wild success.

But what I'm trying to get at is how you would about uniting groups. What would be the imum unity of all the dit- right basis ferent currents of opinion within the broad ment for nuclear mament?

Can CND just itself? Can it be brella for the fencess consen HET SINE
